    44th Annual Falmouth Road Race - August 21, 2016
The 2016 Falmouth Road Race was held on August 21, 2016, under bright sunny skies, with low humidity, and a stiff headwind for runners on the picturesque road course.  More than 11,000 runners attacked the 7.1 mile race from the Captain Kidd restaurant in Woods Hole to the former Casino Restaurant in Falmouth Heights for the 44th time.  In the Men’s Division, elite distance runner Stephen Sambu of Kenya took the lead virtually from the start of the race, and pulled away in commanding fashion to

It's a Y-Dynasty as Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox Win 3rd Cape Cod Baseball League Championship in a Row
The deciding Game 3 of the 2016 Cape Cod Baseball League Championship series pitted a blooming dynasty against a sentimental favorite.  The Y-D Red Sox, champions of the East Division, had reached their third straight Cape Cod Baseball League Championship Series.  They won the previous two Championship series over Hyannis in 2015, and, their 2016 opponents, the Falmouth Commodores, in 2014.  In this year’s Championship Series, however, there was a sense that this might be the year that the

The 2008 Cape Cod Baseball League All Star Game Streakers
The Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game returns to Veterans Field in Chatham for the first time since 2008 on Saturday, July 23, 2016.  Major League Baseball Scouts will pack the stands behind home plate to evaluate the best of the best in the Nation's most prestigious summer collegiate baseball league.  If the scouts are lucky, they may get to evaluate more than baseball players, particularly in the outfield. In 2008, the artificial lights at Veteran's Field had completely taken over the

Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard welcomed a visitor from half way across the globe on the July Fourth Weekend.  The Hōkūleʻa first visited Martha's Vineyard, and then set sail for Great Harbor in Woods Hole.  The vessel is is a performance-accurate full-scale replica of a waʻa kaulua, which is a Polynesian double-hulled voyaging canoe.  The Hōkūleʻa was launched on 8 March 1975 by the Polynesian Voyaging Society, she is best known for her 1976 Hawaiʻi to Tahiti voyage performed with Polynesian

Arnold Mycock - Good-bye Sweet Friend
With deep sadness, CapeHomepage.com acknowledges the passing of legendary Cotuit Kettleers, and Cape Cod Baseball League, volunteer, Arnold W. Mycock, who died in his home, surrounded by his family, just a short distance from his beloved Lowell Park, on Friday, April 22, 2016.  He was 92.  Arnold volunteered for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League for 66 years.  That is 16 years longer than I have been alive, and it is a very long time.  Many people knew Arnold for decades

There's A New Ship In Town - Cape Cod Welcomes The R/V Neil Armstrong
There’s a new ship in town.  Just twenty-two days after Cape Cod bid adieu to the historic WHOI vessel R/V Knorr (photo at right), Cape Cod welcomed the arrival of her replacement, the R/V Neil Armstrong.  The beautiful new research vessel was greeted with horn blasts from nearby ferries, cannon fire from the Woods Hole Oceanographic institute pier, and fireworks.  Several hundred souls came out to greet her arrival on a chilly, but spectacularly beautiful April morning in Woods Hole.

    Crazy Cape Cod Weather
It has been a wild couple of weeks of weather on Cape Cod.  Since spring officially arrived on March 20th, Mother Nature has thrown Cape Codders for a loop.  First, there was actually a snow storm on the first full day of spring.  Then, we had a few days of extremely high winds, even by Cape Cod standards, that resulted in cancelled ferries to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.  Now, on April 3rd and April 4th, we get back to back spring snowstorms.  Ouch!  This must be Mother Nature's sinister

    Bald Eagles on Cape Cod
The spectacular recovery of the Osprey from the brink of extinction has warmed the hearts of many Cape Cod birders and nature enthusiasts.  The ban on the pesticide, DDT, in the 1970s, paved the way for Ospreys to recover from the devastating effects of the harmful chemical.  Another raptor was also nearly lost to DDT,  and it was our nation’s national symbol:  The American Bald Eagle.  Thankfully, the banning of DDT also lead to an impressive recovery for Bald Eagles.  Like Ospreys, Bald Eagles
